Lucy AAC flew Anais over 200 miles from Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London to Liverpool Women’s Hospital to receive neonatal care closer to home. After Anais’s Lucy AAC transfer, her mum Ashley wrote about their experiences. Please read their story below:
“Anais was born at 26+6 weeks gestation on 8th May 2015 and was incredibly poorly. After 15 days at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, she boarded her first plane to spend a further eight weeks at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. She was discharged at 10 weeks old, still three weeks premature and after being diagnosed with chronic lung disease, home oxygen came with us After a million appointments at so many clinics, the oxygen was finally taken away on December 4th 2015. Up until this point Anais was growing and developing well but this momentous achievement was a turning point and we’ve never looked back. Anais still has chronic lung disease and will do for some time but can breathe and saturate her blood oxygen levels well independently. We also have a heart issue that will be addressed with surgery. We have a daughter that is frankly a force to be reckoned with. She has strength beyond belief, a willingness to success and determination that will take her far in life. We are truly blessed and of course will always be so incredibly grateful for the funding from Lucy Air Ambulance for Children to get our baby home to Liverpool.”
