260 miles
Hannah and her partner were visiting Warrington when their daughter, Hope, was born early over 260 miles from their home in Torbay. Hope was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Whiston Hospital and closely monitored.
Being so far away from home, Hannah and her partners’ wider family were unable to visit them and Hope, and the family were so worried about how isolated the couple were from them. It was essential that Hope was transferred to a hospital closer to home.
The couple were desperately worried about how their tiny daughter would be transferred such a long distance when she was still in such a vulnerable condition. Hope was too fragile for a road ambulance or helicopter transfer, and so Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (Lucy AAC) was contacted to fly Hope and Hannah to a hospital closer to home.
Lucy AAC flew Hannah and Hope from Whitson Hospital near Warrington to Torbay Hospital, the closest neonatal unit to the family home. Hannah and her partner were reunited with their wider family, and the family were able to meet Hope for the first time. Hope progressed well at the new hospital and was soon discharged home.
