Lucy AAC flies triplets to receive neonatal care closer to home

Liverpool > Middlesbrough

160 miles

Poppy, Lily and Hollie were born 13 weeks early over 160 miles from home whilst their parents were in Liverpool. Being born so early, the triplets were immediately placed in the neonatal intensive care unit at Arrowe Park Hospital. Rachel, the triplets mum, says:

“I went into labour on the Monday night and Paul had hoped to get back for the birth but I had to have an emergency C-section early Tuesday morning and he wasn’t able to get there in time. They weighed between one pound nine and two pounds each. They were tiny!”

The triplets faced a long stay in hospital, so it was essential that they were moved to a hospital closer to their home in Middlesbrough. However, the hospital that the triplets needed to be moved would need three neonatal beds available for them. Logistically it was very challenging to arrange, so the local NHS transport team for Arrowe Park Hospital contacted Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (Lucy AAC) to help with the logistics and fund the transfer.

Lucy AAC flew Poppy and Lily together, and then flew Hollie two days later. The triplets were finally reunited with both parents and their older siblings. With their transfer being just a few weeks before Christmas, the whole family spent Christmas together in hospital but all that mattered was that they were all together.
