190 miles
Saiqa was visiting her family in Manchester when her third child, Alizeh, was born 10 weeks early. Alizeh was placed in the neonatal unit at St Mary’s Hospital where she could received specialist care that would help her stabilise and develop.
Although Saiqa was grateful to have family around her during this time, she was over 190 miles from home and her two other children. It was essential that Alizeh was transferred to a hospital closer to their home in Reading as soon as possible.
Lucy Air Ambulance for Children was the only charity in the UK that was able to transfer Alizeh. We flew her in our flight-ready incubator that kept her comfortable and safe during the long journey to Reading. Saiqa accompanied Alizeh on the transfer and was comforted (and entertained) by the Lucy AAC flight team!
We transferred Alizeh to the Royal Berkshire Hospital which is only 3 miles from their family home. From there, Saiqa could visit Alizeh everyday whilst also looking after her two other children at home.
Alizeh progressed quickly at the new hospital and was discharged home around her due date. This meant that she was finally able to have a proper cuddle with her big brother and sister who were so happy to have her home with them.
Saiqa sent us some updated photos of Alizeh at 7 months. As you can see, she is loving being home with her family and absolutely thriving!
